Empowering Student Online Learning During School Shutdowns

With a focus on avid migration towards online learning, getting caught up in a standardized approach can be easy. While creating a uniform system can help make this transition smooth and seamless, we can’t neglect our attention to unique student learning styles. Where’s the balance between setting up a consistent teaching system and personalized learning approaches? How can we empower our students to take ownership of their learning while at home? The answer begins with us.

Parents will need to play a more active role in being present with student learning. This will be the key to converting a generalized approach into the right learning style for each child. With many parents working from home, student learning could look completely different than before. While giving full attention may be a challenge for parents bringing a full-time workload home, it will be up to parents to champion their child’s education. Get involved in parent-teacher collaborations to arrive at a customized learning strategy for your child.

At the same time, it will be up to teachers to provide students with the right resources to take ownership of their learning. Generalized education can leave students feeling unmotivated and unengaged due to a lack of choices. If possible, try to provide one aspect of daily learning where students have the ability to choose the delivery method.

Empower students to use available web applications to reiterate information in a way that makes sense to them. Consider implementing supplementary worksheets and resources alongside your lessons.

Direct your students towards relevant online practice and quizzing sites. Moving academic instruction to the online realm can potentially provide students with a plethora of appropriate resources at their disposal.

Here at CDI Spaces, we’ve witnessed the evolution of teaching and learning styles over the past three decades. Because of this, we’ve been able to develop a trusted, outcome-based approach in predicting new developments in our classrooms.
